Are Africans considered more exotic looking than black Americans? Tyra talked about how it's hard to be a black women in the industry as most jobs go to African models...
I was shocked. |
| Africans have a different look to them then African Americans. I would say they are more exotic, yes. I want to say its a culture thing. Just like when you go to different parts of America people look and act different. So I guess it's also a bit of economics. :) |

| Exotic simply means foreign or different, so of course African women would be considered exotic as their features are different from the norm. I would think it would be easy in general to tell the difference between an African and an African American. The same as a pale white woman would be exotic in Asia. |
Black European (American) Models ? I know black women are gorgeous, very exotic, and beautifully shaped blessed with immaculate curves and are celebrated in European Countries . Particularly Germany and France are what my interest is in . I already have plans of URBAN GLAMOUR MODELING in the U.S but would like to branch out nationally for the simple fact American Black Men shy away from dark beauties and want to put lighter featured, mixture ethnic background women on the shelves but I know it's about the opposite in Europe .
I just want to know how big are the urban glamour models really ?
I preferably want answers from German , french natives only but am open .
Urban Glamour Modeling( not fashion , skinny twig , victoria secret modeling but ETHNIC CURVY WOMEN ) |
| I have to disagree with you completely. |
Why are people now saying dark skin black people are exotic? I have heard people call that one African model who has all her hair cut off exotic. I mean I would just say she is beautiful, becuase she is. So does anyone else here think dark skin black people are exotic? Because I always though being called exotic was not all that good. |
Because they are...Deal with it....Most come from exotic countries.
Think about it...It's only dark people that could possibly be EXOTIC |
Whats up with the weird exotic looking models these days?!? How come too many models are some weird mixtures of different nationalities... You cant even tell if they are black or white or hispanic or whatever else! To me this is just weird and confusing... And plus you dont even know what market they are targeting and which group is supposed to wear clothes they advertising... Isn't it better to have those high beauty standards like back in the day? |
| The modeling world is currently looking for girls who are unique. They want you to remember faces. It's not like these girls aren't pretty, they just aren't beautiful by the standard book definition. Also... I don't find anything weird with looking exotic. And obviously, the targets for the clothes they model are the people they appeal to. =]] |
What do you find attractive about black women? (I dunno if this belongs in beauty, but it might)
I mean like, I'm bi-curious, I find my perfect black woman tall, with a long thin, Caucasian-like nose, dark skin and very thin. Basically like a exotic looking model. Your opinions/thoughts? |
| So why are you asking us? So we can tell you what to think? |
Are there any black victoria secret models? I've only seen white girls or mixed exotic latinas no African American or African girls as victoria secret models if there are any can you post them pls |
| Not nearly as many as there should be, but hey, America likes to make citizens think of beauty as being white, so are you really surprised? The media, the government, the education system, and the people of this country all like to perpetuate the idea that dark skin is not beautiful, only further carrying on the cycle of oppression. |
Why is light skin considered the standard of beauty? If you look in the media, you will mostly find light skinned black models, light skinned indian models and light skinned asian models. Light skin is considered the standard of beauty in asia, they hate the sun because they want to be as light as possible. And people say crap like dark skin is exotic, if it's so exotic why arent we being portrayed much in the media. All we have is people like alek wek. |
| In Asian countries like India, it's leftover from a class thing: having lighter skin means you're not "working class" and you don't stay out labouring in the sun all day. |
Why do some Black women claim the media doesn't show darker Black women anywhere? I mean, maybe they're not shown on t.v much or in movies, but nearly every high end, successful Black model I know and can think of (with the exception of Chanel Iman) seems to be African and dark skinned. Girls like Oluchi Onweagba, Wakeema Hollis, Naomi Campbell, Lanisha Cole, Patricia Nama, Sessilie Lopez, Damaris Lewis...etc, the list goes on. I used to be obsessed with Black models and I rarely see a girl who looks like Meagan Good or Beyonce inside of any magazine like Vogue or ones like that. The models ae always dark. Even my seventeen magazine I was looking through has dark skinned Black models.
From what it seems, African/Dark skinned women (who are beautiful) are seen as "high class" and exotic, while lighter/mixed girls like they show on t.v are seen as "commercial" and "safe". |
| In Australia the only women in the media are white. |
